Fire Safety Inspections

The Larchmont Fire Department conducts fire safety inspections in commercial properties and units on an annual basis. 

The following are some of the code compliance items we look for and that you must maintain: 

  • Smoke detectors must be installed and maintained. 
  • Carbon monoxide detectors must be installed and maintained. 
  • All emergency lighting and exit signs must be operational. 
  • All emergency egress pathways must always be kept clear of furniture, debris and storage items. 
  • Assembly occupancies must post safety evacuation plans. 
  • Commercially-monitored alarm systems must be tested annually by your alarm company, and the Larchmont Fire Department must receive the alarm certification. 
  • Fire extinguishers must be installed and certified by an approved testing company. 
  • Sprinkler and Standpipe systems must be inspected by an approved testing company, and the Larchmont Fire Department must receive the test certification. 
  • Commercial cooking hoods must be clean and inspected every six months by an approved testing company, and the inspection sticker must be placed on the hood. 
  • Combustible products (boxes, supplies, etc.) cannot be placed near fuel burning appliances. 
  • Extension cords cannot be used as a permanent power source for appliances or machinery. 
  • Elevator Inspection certificates must be furnished to the Larchmont Fire Department.

KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry System

The Larchmont Fire Department has adopted the KNOX-BOX Rapid Entry System. This KNOX-BOX allows the Fire Department to enter your building without forced entry, 24 hours a day 365 days a year in response to fires or other emergency conditions. The system will provide the following:

  1. Minimum response time to the emergency condition by allowing keyed access to your building.
  2. Prevent or minimize damage to the building during entry.
  3. Eliminate the need for you to bring the key to gain access or re- secure the building.
  4. The dependability of KNOX BOX Rapid Entry System. Providing your building with high security, tamper resistant construction, multi key capability and proven effectiveness.
The KNOX BOX will allow the Larchmont Fire Department to gain quick access to your building. The Larchmont Fire Department has one key that will fit all the KNOX BOXES in the Village. The KNOX BOX is keyed specifically for the Village of Larchmont and would be used only in cases of emergencies. The KNOX BOX key is kept securely locked into our Fire Apparatus and is password protected. It is your responsibility to purchase and install the KNOX BOX at a conspicuous location chosen by the Fire Department and you as the owner. The Larchmont Fire Department does not profit from the sale of the KNOX BOX.
